The BFBF Presents: Josh Ritter

When Josh Ritter saw my posts about how his music spurred my recovery from addiction, he reached out to offer his gratitude and support. Soon, Josh will perform a show in Denver the Back From Broken Foundation, a benefit concert to support and celebrate addiction recovery and mental health awareness.

The show will take place at the beautiful Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox in Lower Downtown Denver on Sunday, September 28. You get to see a prolific and charismatic songwriter perform in an intimate setting, while supporting a great cause. Josh was named one of the “100 Greatest Living Songwriters” by Paste magazine. He’s performed with John Prine and has written songs for Bob Weir and Joan Baez.

Josh and I struck up a friendship over social media after he learned about how his music helped me get sober 10 years ago. I was sitting alone on my bedroom floor, listening to music while Josh’s “Change of Time” appeared on my playlist. I was moved by his lyrics and played the song over and over, with tears streaming down my face. Then, I picked up the phone and asked for help. I went to a 12-step meeting the next day. Moved by my story, Josh reached out. We met at a show in Boulder a few years ago and have remained in touch.

He’s an incredibly kind and gracious person and an amazing artist who has had a tremendous impact on my life. I’m honored and enormously grateful for Josh’s generosity in supporting our effort to ignite hope for people struggling with addiction and mental health issues.
